I went on my annual camping trip about 3 weeks ago and one of the guys pulled out some Kipper Snacks. He said I ought to try them but I was reluctant because I dont usually eat sardines or the like. I tried them and to my suprise with hot sauce on a cracker they make a fine snack. Now Im on a quest to find the best tasting brand. So far I have tried 3, Bar Harbor is the best yet, Crown Prince is second and Beach Cliff is third. The first two are very acceptable, Beach Cliff is just ok. Anybody know of anymore I should try? Any other way to eat them? I was thinking of a dip like clam dip with cream cheese.

I've always liked Crown Prince and Brunswick. Reese are good to, if a little hard to find.

Kippers are smoked herring. Try them with eggs for breakfast. No, I'm not nuts. Smiler

I absolutely love sardines and I even have my 7 year old daughter actually asking for them! Look for the Goya brand in 'Spicy Oil', they are fantastic and they're big firm whole fish, not the mushy fish that come in most brands. These are by far my favorite. The only place I can find them is Wegmans.

While you're there, pick up a can of smoked oysters........those along with the Goya Sardines and a sleeve of crackers makes for Good Eats!

I haven't tried the Crown Prince oysters, but I had their sardines and they sucked! Look for the Goya smoked oysters as well, while you're there, try the octopus too!!

In the UK kippers are smoked mackerel. I've never heard of them being made with sardines, or coming in a can. Mackerel's a nice oily fish and really delicious.
