Do you ever have the calling to repeat the exercise again, maybe compare the then and now aspect of the BBQ halls?

Joe,

Shortly after "Smokestack Lightning" came out, I started work on a film based on the book with the subtitle, "A Day in the Life of Barbecue." That film goes to many of the same places I went to in doing the book. But it also included a discussion at the end between me, Danny Meyer and Calvin Trillin. Danny owns the Union Square Cafe as well as Blue Smoke barbecue in New York City. We talked a lot about changes in the barbecue scene including the changes between the old "joints" and the new "restaurants."

For info on the film, go to http://www.baypackage.com/smokestack_detail.php.
