Hope I haven't wasted a turkey...I put a 22lb'r in the fridge on the 25th of November - it was frozen solid at the time. At a defrost rate of 5 hours per pound in the refrigerator - at 110 hours it was defrosted - sometime on the 30th of November. It's now 6 days later - think it's still ok?? If still good - I was going to put it in a brine tommorrow afternoon and then cook it Saturday afternoon. Please let me know your thoughts and experience. Thanks.

I'd say your prob safe but you better hurry, up and cook it. Let your nose be the final judge though. If it smells fine cook it up. If it smells funky set it out outside for the crows and critters to enjoy. I can tell you this, when poultry goes bad your nose WILL know it. Wink

Most raw food spoils safe--i.e., it spoils before it becomes unsafe to consume. In the case of your turkey, the typical pathogens associated with poultry would be killed during cooking. The big deal is quality and that's where spoilage comes in--spoilage tastes and/or smells horrible. Pathogenic bacteria--the kind that make you sick--have no odor nor taste.
