Wow, all I can say is wow - I am an absolute convert to their chickens and now the turkeys.....did a modified honey brine, rubbed with Amish butter mixed with fresh thyme, stuffed with apples and thyme, cooked at 325 BGE lump - 3 chunks of apple wood ~ 3 hours (11 lb)...best turkey I every had, really nice smoke ring, light smoke, rich, deep turkey flavor....fantabulous.

I saw these at my local Giant Grocery store. And for the record, I'm not a huge Turkey or poultry fan at all, so... I'm more into Pork fat, Bacon, and Ribeyes. Anywho when I saw the Turkeys ranged between $50-$70 for one Damn Bird! Eeker I laughed out loud. I could eat Ribeye everyday for a week for that price, or almost buy a case of Butts. I'll only spend $10 or less for a Turkey, I just brine it, and smoke it up for smoked Turkey salad, that's my fav way to eat Turkey, or just cold and a jar of Hellmann's Mayo. Big Grin Sorry for the rant but, way over priced IMO.

To each his own Bryan...it was $2.99/lb so about $30.00 (other fresh natural turkeys were $1.99 at every store I checked and they are not processed like B&E)...for a once a year splurge not a bad price compared to prime rib etc. Again, I've never had a turkey with such deep flavor. I'll do it again in a heartbeat. Their chickens are also quite pricey compared to cheap, mass produced ones, but there is no comparison in quality and flavor IMHO. Since learning from others on this board (like Kevin K), I don't buy big box meat much at all anymore, only small, natural producers, mostly local that sell at the Farmer's Market...yes it is expensive, but worth it in the long run as the flavor is intense, ingredient list small, minimally processed and for beef, the fat profile is much healthier. Just my $0.02 for anyone interested.

Don, They were $3.99lb here. Eeker If you love turkey like I love beef, I could see paying for it. But I'm not really in to poultry, so I can't see paying that price. I wonder what all those left over Bell & Evans birds are priced at today? Smiler

I just got back from Harris Teeter. Fresh bone in breasts are $0.68 a pound. I'm tempted to pick up 3 or 4 and throw 'em in the freezer. Whole fresh birds are $0.39 per pound. Eeker

Bryan, at $3.99/lb I would have had to swallow hard Eeker...I had to think a bit at $2.99, but said what the heck, it is only once a year (and was worth it). I checked them out today, still at full price with a freeze by date of Dec.1-4...I'll check again in a day or so. I talked to the butcher, he had one too and said he will be carrying them from now on...
