I remember the last two years during the week or 2 following new years, the Albertsons stores in my area (orange county, ca) would clear out their leftover turkeys for ridiculously cheap prices. Last year I believe it was $0.39 a pound - I picked up 3 totalling over 60 lbs of meat for under $25. Haven't seen any good clearance sales yet this year though - checked Albertsons and they have them on sale for $0.99 - pretty good, but nothing like last year. They still had a bunch though - so maybe they'll drop soon.

The industry buzz last summer was that two major factors would be at play this past season: one, that some consumers would gravitate toward high end, free-range mail-order or retail turkeys; two, that overall consumer turkey purchases would be lower in general. Turkey production was thus lowered, judging by the numbers I've seen. Hence, less need for clearance sales. Frowner

My local store that I shop at did the reverse this year. They put them on sale for $0.37lb the 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Come Turkey day they were all gone. I picked up 3 12 lb birds. Big Grin

Same here, Bryan. Ours were .39 cents before Tday for Jeanne O and I think .69 for BBall. I got a fresh bird for .87 5 days before the big day.
