Hmm. I'm pretty sure if we could ask YOUR dad, he'd have a "Bonehead" story or two to share. Big Grin

Anyway, have the kid do the xmas or new year's bird and help him through every step of the process from selection to presentation. Lessons learned, you'll eat, and you'll have a valuable father-son experience. Hell, you might both look back someday and laugh.

Happy Thanksgiving to All!

I like Howelett's idea. Once a few years ago my son visited from college, I told him to "help himself" to what I had in the freezer...I came downstairs one morning and he and his buddies had EATEN AN ENTIRE SMOKED BRISKET.....a year later for his 21st birthday I bought him his very own WSM (complete with accessories)...now his roommates steal his bbq....payback is a b%$ch.

Actually it would have been fine to cook immediately.

What? Me? Are you kidding, I was the picture perfect teenager . . . if you exclude the time my Dad's insurance company dumped him because of my driving record, having to drag my butt in the house that time because I was passed out on the front lawn drunk, that money I blew vs. buying my books . . . I was PERFECT!

Kevin, DOH!! You're kidding, I could have cooked her that morning? At least I could have cooked and vac. sealed her I suppose. Live and learn . . . I need a Kevin Kruger lifeline Big Grin

Yes, you could have. The time was not long enough that concerns would be raised. As long as you cooked to safe internals it would be fine. Cooling quickly post cook would be important, of course, before packing for storage.

(You can always email me, btw.)

There are also half a dozen turkey thawing questions, 2 specifically about 'left out ... is it safe' in the safety thread of links I put together. Can't help but feel that was a complete waste of 8 hours of my life. Smiler

Shawn, I definitly would not call that as waste of your time, and I know there are plenty of people on this or even just visitng that got plenty out of it.Knowing Larry the way I do, I am sure he was just so upset about it that he didn't take the time to go back and read your work. I know I didn't think about it until just now...

Shawn, not a waste of your time, trust me. At that point unless you were Megan Fox (if you don't know who she is google her) standing on my porch with a fresh turkey in her arms I wasn't in any mood to be researching or talking, LOL.

Looking forward to missing these kids Wink

I don't mean to hijack the thread and continue discussion on it ... and I'm not upset, but I did mention it here because it happened here and I take it as a sign link lists don't work any more than search ... even if one used search one might not find the info that's already there. The problem is systemic. I hope future iterations of forums include things like AI search, tagging.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming. Sorry for your loss BTW Larry. Frowner
