Hello All, I bought a 15lb Fresh Butterball from my local store in Montreal, Canada. Nowhere on the labeling does it state that it has been injected with brine but it does say that it's "Deep Basted". Listed ingredients are:
Turkey, non-hydrogenated vegetable oil mararine (contains palm and palm kernal oils). Allergen alert: Contains milk and soy ingredients. So, can I brine this turkey? Any feedback would be great. Thanks Tim (BB) Q. Montreal, Quebec SMOKIN UP A STORM! |

I am by no means a turkey person. I can tell you that the Butterball website says not to brine a basted bird. Scroll down a bit here to their guidelines

I don't see why you couldn't. I think the oils in the 'deep basting' aka injection will at worst slow down the brining process a bit, not prevent it from happening. If I was to try it I'd probably inject some brine to compensate for this, then brine it as usual.
If the ingredients list salt I wouldn't brine it. |

Does it say anything about salt or other forms of sodium in the ingredients listing? If not, you should be fine. They just put some extra grease in there. A little salt and grease never hurt anyone.
