Going to do my first turkey on the WSM tomorrow. Plan is to have it done by halftime of the Pats game (if it has thawed in time!). Didn't feel like driving the extra distance to find a non pre-injected bird (that's all the local Walmart had).

Just started looking at the postings here, but is salt & pepper my best bet for a "rub" on a turkey? Or are there other creative options out there? I have some extra of my standard pork BBQ rub that I could use, but I'm trying to get a different flavor here as this is my practice for the T-day bird. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I wouldn't use salt - that juiced bird will be plenty salty.

There are numerous ways you can prepare a bird though. From something simple, like cracked pepper to just putting some sage under the skin or basting w/ compound butter.

What kind of flavor are you going for? "Traditional Holiday" flavor? Hot? Sweet?
