Hello All, Does anyone know where I can purchase Pork Butts in the Burlington, VT or Plattsburgh, NY area. I'm going to need four or five 10lb butts with bone in for the end of the month. They are hard to get in Montreal, Quebec and they are expensive. Thanks.

This doesn't help for your end of month need, but in your area they should be available in cryo. I recently bought 8 from Sobey's when they had a pork shoulder butt steak sale. I just asked the guy working the meat counter to sell them to me whole. Sobey's doesn't list any stores in Quebec but the same should apply for the grocery stores you have there.

A better way to go is find wholesalers or food service suppliers that deal with meat. You should be able at least pay cash to buy them by the case for under $2/lb.

I'm set up with two in my area now, $50 minimum purchase Smiler

I think it's an issue of mistaken identity.

If you ask the butcher at virtually any grocery store for pork shoulder they will likely have some. It's just that we (Canadians) generally don't cook a lot of it, so it's sold in cheap steaks or hacked into cubes. The biggest problem these days is that our stores are getting almost 100% "seasoned" pork. I'm even seeing seasoned beef!!

If you can find a good local butcher you will probably pay a bit more, but I find it's worth it. I know the pork is from 30 miles away, fresh (never frozen), and he will do a lot of the trimming for me. I use picnics as well and he will remove the skin, fat cap, debone and tie up for me!! Now that's service!
