Uhmmm.... OK I can tell I'm going to catch it for this but I gotta know.

What's a sammie?

Word etymology:
sammie is derived from the word sammich
sammich is a corruption of sandwich

Sandwich is frequently attributed to a gambling game that included the "Earl of Sandwich" where he requested some meat between two pieces of bread to eat while keeping his fingers clean.

Now you know.

I have never had a BBQ brisket sammie, only roasted, sliced brisket with caramelized onions on rye with tomato. It was in NYC at a Jewish deli, and that sammie still lingers in my head. That is heaven to me, but one of these days.....I'll smoke one on the WSM.

If you're speaking strictly about the flat then I might agree with you there, Mark. But the point (found on whole, untrimmed briskets) pretty much has to be chopped or pulled, much like pork butt or beef clod.

Jane, life's too short. Pencil in a brisket for your next smoke! Smiler

Love to crisp up the tip and chop it for sandwiches. We keep two different tomato based sauces and several jars of peppers for dressing.

I'm a new guy here. Read all the brisket posts and I must confess I have never smoked one.

My wife has never seen brisket in the store. Maybe I have to ask the butcher for it.

Anxious now, after reading the posts here, to try my first one. Thank you.

Aloha!

Beware the supermarket briskets. They are generally small and trimmed too much. When you try one, find an untrimmed brisket, preferrable either a whole brisket or the 'flat' portion.

Sliced, chopped or shredded makes no difference to me. A little brisket on a miami onion roll with a little horseradish....heaven on a bun!

I liked sliced brisket on a Ciabata roll that has been grilled with a little butter and garlic salt then smother the meat with carmalized onions.

Yum Yum

Now that sounds excellent. If you served caramelized onions on cardboard, it would still be good.
