I posted earlier about the problem with indirect cooking on my weber gold 3 burner due to the burners running left to right vs. front to rear, so i want to get another gasser.

If you were in the market for a 3 burner gasser, what would you buy? Price to be less than $1000 for sure. Personally, i like charcoal best, but like having gas on occassion.

Weber One Touch Platinum, Weber Genesis Gold Gasser, Weber 22.5 Kettle, 2 Electric Brinkman Smokers, Brinkman Charcoal Smoker and a New 2009 WSM on order and due next month

I have had a Weber Genesis Gold with the side
burner for about 7 years. It has the same 3 burner configuration running right to left. It
seems to be very flexible for indirect use, as
it will work with any single or combination of
2 burners available plus the raised grate at the back. I have yet to find something that I
have had trouble doing indirect with it. What is it that you can not do indirect with this grill? And hopefully you will find better answers on this forum than from the morons at
Consumer Reports. They are truly a jack of all
trades, master of none.

I'm with Bob on this one. I have a Genesis with the 3 burner lengthwise configuration and indirect cooking has not only been a breeze but the results have been excellent. It's a quality, responsive grill with loads of space. With the front burner on and the heating rack removed I can do 4 beer-can chickens at once with ease. Just about anything that can be indirectly cooked can be handled with that burner config.

I love our 3 burner stainless Ducane with side burner and rotissiere. It's natural gas.

The burners run front to back.

I need new burners, so I guess I'll find out how good their customer service is.

I know what Davidd is saying. I always felt like if I turn only the middle burner off, then it doesn't leave a lot of room to fit much more in the middle than a pork tenderloin. I tried occasionally with just the front burner on but then felt like I didn't get enough heat. I posted a while ago with this same question and got some interesting responses and suggestions. I will try and find and repost.

David

The Genesis (E) (EP) or (S)320 is probably the best you will find. Bob and Trev sound as though they are power users of the Genesis.
If you read my post in this threadHere It explains in some detail a method to turn the majority of the cooking surface into an indirect zone and is a method that I use regularly without failures.

Bob nailed it, I have the same gasser (4 years) and would get the same one again if I needed a new one.

I've had my Weber Genesis for about 12 years now and never had any issues with indirect. I have a weber smoke box that fits on the left side of the grill. Whenever I wanted to do indirect, I used the bacck burner only and left the front 2 off. No problems.

I just replaced all the shelves on it, put new grates and burners in last year, but to be honest, about all I use it for these days is storage for tools and such for my other cookers.

As I said, Mine is over 12 years old and I can't speak to those they're selling now. But I don't think you could beat the quality, and my limited experience with their customer service has always bee pretty good

I have a 2002 Genesis, my third, and I really like it and got excellent longevity with the first 2. My son-in-law has a 2007 model Genesis with the rod grate and I like that one even better. I wish mine would wear out so I can get the new style, but it isn't likely. Frowner
