Today I'm smoking a 7lb chicken for my wife and I. It'll be the virgin voyage for my 18.5. Wish me luck!

Okay... I have a question for anyone who's on the forums.

I'm following the instructions for the "Basic Barbecued Chicken" except I started w/ a 7lb chicken instead of two 3.5-4lb chickens.

I butterflied the chicken and cut it in half as per the instructions. Then I placed a half on each grill.

The temperature has been a steady 325 since I started.

My question is:

Will I need to smoke for longer than 45 minutes because the chicken is bigger? Granted, it's the same amount of meat, but will it need to permeate longer or what not?

Thanks in advance. Smiler

I'd check it at around 45 minutes, it might be done, but if may need a little longer.

At 45 Minutes:
Breast: 159F
Thigh: 165F

Leaving it alone for 10 more minutes.

Okay, it was a little undercooked when I took it out. I should have checked the temperature again at that time.

So, I put it back in for a bit and it came out great.

YUMMY!
