It's time to kickoff WSM Smoke Day V, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 23, 2009!

Here's a little history...back in 2005, one of our members, Joel Kiess, suggested that everyone should barbecue with their WSM on the same day. Then, we'd all post descriptions and photos of what we cooked here on the bulletin board. We held Smoke Day I on May 28, 2005 and we're now in our fifth year.

Smoke Day is a great way to celebrate a lot of things...Memorial Day weekend, the beginning of summer, National BBQ Month (May), and the fun and enjoyment of WSM ownership!

Feel free to use this forum to discuss your plans for Smoke Day, get ideas on what to cook, and maybe even hook-up with someone else to cook with.

On May 23, I will turn on the ability for you to create your own Smoke Day photo album so you can share photos right here on the bulletin board.

Smoke Day V t-shirts will be available, so stay tuned for more details.

Have a great time everyone!

Regards,
Chris

Does it count if I cook on the Performer?

Opps, I know the answer! It will only count if I post pictures.

I think the rules are pretty loose - it's more about the smoking - and hey it's still a Weber! And yes - post pictures!

I’m in. Hope we don’t have a “spare the air day” in the SF Bay Area. Might get caught by the Smoke Police.

Count me in. I put my pin on the map for Dayton Ohio. This will be my first smoke day, I just got my WSM in October of last year.

Chris, is it possible to get a smoke day hat on the Cafe Press store? I'm not much of a t-shirt guy.

Unfortunately, I will be away on SMOKE DAY V but plan to observe Sunday and probably Monday.

Why limit WSM SMOKE V to just one day! With the addition of the 22.5 WSM why not expand to WSM SMOKE WEEKEND V.

Just a thought.

I ordered a white T shirt. If it isn't all dirty and smokey after Smoke Day, I'll be greatly disappointed.

I have two butts waiting in the freezer. Now, if someone will run a sale on spare ribs, I'll be set.

This Saturday there'll be 16 home-made Bratwurst sausages and 2 Spatchcocked Chickens spending some time together in the WSM. Wink

I'll dry-brine the chickens first, then stuff some lemon zest and minced rosemary under the skin before smoking them with pear wood. WSM Smile

Rain is in the forecast, but I've got a large "market umbrella" that'll keep the cooking area dry. Cool

Here in Canada, May 16th - 18th is our Victoria Day weekend, with Monday being the holiday.

So now I'm going to have to figure something out for May 23rd - maybe more Brats or a boneless rib-eye...............

Chuck, and everyone else - don't worry about all that "spare the air" jazz. Curious, I recently took a close look at the law regarding this, and it's surprisingly easy to read.

It explicitly exempts cooking fuels and fuels burned in cookers. The cooker police might frown on the use of lighter fluid, but I trust that none of us here are using that awful stuff, right?
