In the recent 1.2 bulletin board software upgrade, Infopop added support for RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds.

If you don't know what RSS is, here's a brief description from Wikipedia:

quote:
A program known as a feed reader or aggregator can check RSS-enabled webpages on behalf of a user and display any updated articles that it finds. RSS saves users from having to repeatedly visit favorite websites to check for new content or be notified of updates via email. It is now very common to find RSS feeds on most major web sites, as well as many smaller ones.
You need to install an RSS reader on your PC to use the URLs below.

For an RSS 2.0 feed, use this URL:
http://tvwbb.infopop.cc/eve/forums?a=ci&ci_id=68310183&feedType=rss2

For an RSS 1.0 feed, use this URL:
http://tvwbb.infopop.cc/eve/forums?a=ci&ci_id=68310183&feedType=rss1

For an ATOM 0.3 feed, use this URL:
http://tvwbb.infopop.cc/eve/forums?a=ci&ci_id=68310183&feedType=atom03

These feeds are supposed to give you the most recent 20 message threads either posted or replied to in the last day.

The RSS 2.0 feed works for me, but I don't know about the others. For those interested, let me know what you think of this, how well it works, how useful it is, etc.

Regards,
Chris

Chris,

I downloaded "Pluck" rss reader from www.pluck.com. It allows me to read the rss2 format fine. Pretty cool tool.

Anyway for anyone interested, Pluck is a free download.

Works just fine in Firefox - no additional software needed.

If you use Firefox, go to Manage Bookmarks, then under the file menu go to Add Live Bookmark and copy the link.

I moved the link to the Toolbar folder so it's easily available.

Pretty slick! I'll have to use it a few times to see if it's really worthwhile.

Not sure why it's not working for you. When I plug the RSS 2.0 link into IE8, the heading "TVWBB - Recent Forum Topics" is a link to the bulletin board, and there's a list of 20 message threads and the title of each message is clickable to that message on the bulletin board.

Does your app not support these old RSS 2.0 and 1.0 feeds? Groupee doesn't support anything newer, unfortunately.

Regards,
Chris

the first link was accepted by google reader, however it just lists the 20 topics, which need to be clicked to open a link to the board.

I was hoping to see some actual posts. My work server blocks blogs and forums, but I can sometimes get around that with google reader.

Totally off topic, but Jay - be careful. I have a client in my firm who just lost his >$1 million job a couple days ago for looking at p**n on his work computer. Haha, poor guy. They told him they'd rehire him for 40k.
