I've wanted a smoker for a long time, but never got around to buying one. I picked up a Weber
a couple of weeks ago at a garage sale for $20.00. Very good condition too. But I have a problem that I hope is not too sacrilegious. I want to convert to natural gas as I already have my grill plumbed and converted. Has anyone done this? Thanks.

Welcome. You may need to provide more info on the Weber you purchased, do you know what model it is?

p.s. The most memorable horseback ride I ever had was up the ridge from Wente-just beautiful!

Steve, it's a Weber Smokey Mountain "egg" type smoker that normally uses charcoal. What were you doing in my neighborhood? I live about a mile from the Wente production winery on Tesla road.
Thanks for responding. Mike F.

Mike, I was in the wholesale wine distribution business. I had a fabulous time visiting Wente for a day or two. That must have been 12-14 years ago. The folks there were first class.

I have to ask, why natural gas? Have you done an overnight cook with the wsm?

I am not a purist and believe all I need is smoke and heat from any source. As I said, gas is plumbed in and it's the cheapest fuel.

There are now around 40 wineries in the valley now and although the quality of the wines were not initially very good that also is changing. This area is where Napa was 30 years ago.

P.S. Wente introduced Chardonnay grape to Calif. and all of the Chardonnay root stock in the state derived from Wente
