Just recently got the WSM as a wedding gift but have been following this site for a while. Already have a few racks of ribs and chicken wings under my belt, and have maple bacon curing for a smoke next weekend. If any other Bostonians have recommendations for smoke wood, I'd appreciate the direction. So far I've used some hickory from HD and bought a bundle of wood from a local orchard, but it was for firewood and I'm not sure about the quality of it.

Cheers
J

Summaville - That place is wicked pissa! That's down around the corna from tha haaavid bah, NO?

I grew up in Taunton. Married and living on Long Island now.

On a serious note, go back to the orchard and see if the have apple or cherry for sale. Chunk it yourself and your in business

Welcome From Ashby!!
I get all my apple and peach wood from the local orhards. Most are selling it now in logs for the fireplace but I just split it and cut it into chunks. If you happen to be driving by an orhard in the spring and they are pruning most will just give it to you.
have fun
Mike

Welcome from N. Bristol County too..

I get apple wood from local orchards... splitting it is a chore though.. seems to be like iron compared to oak.

Check Bass Pro Shops in Foxboro for chunks/chips. They seem to have a decent selection.
