Welcome John. I find it very interesting that so many non-Americans are barbecuing around the world. I guess I shouldn't be so suprised by the Germans...BBQ, as we know it today, is largely due to the German settlers. The Germans do know a thing or two about pork and smoking meat. Smiler
Best,
Gary

Welcome to the forum. Your English is excellent. I know that bbq is really popular in Germany, and I've always really enjoyed German food. I really enjoy the pork from this place in Dusseldorf:

Hello John - Welcome to the forum. We always are happy to see someone from distant places such as Germany and look forward to sharing some BBQ ideas with you. Let us know from time to time how your BBQ is going and if you get a chance to post some pictures, please do so. Good luck with your competition cooks. Bob

Hi guys,

so we do nearly the same like you in the Pit. Sometimes Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket, Beer Butt Chicken, Turkey, Meatloaf, Burgers and soethings like this. I will test a lot of Recipes from the US Cookbook for example Stevan Raichlin, Webers "How to grill" or Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Killer Ribs.
I think is a bit differnt between US and Europe to make Q. We love in germany also the side dishes by BBQ. The Meat have to be crispy, nice flouvor and not so sweet and smokey as in US, i gues.
When is possible for me to do my pics here inside so i'll show you my "place to be" in my backyard and my BBQ stuff, as well, and pics from my last dishes.

See you....

What kind of Restaurant you like ? Typical bavarian style or Fast Food like Planet Hollywood ?
Traditionel is the "Hofbräu Keller" www.hofbraeukeller.de, but a lot of tourist inside and you take a look in the pedestrain zone, so i think you find a place for good food stuff.

Welcome John,

I was an Army copter pilot in Hoppstadten (on the Nahe) in the sixties and really enjoyed speisbratten in Idar Oberstein. It was a fantastic way to cook meat over hot coals and even today I do it on my Weber grill.

Glad to have you on board.

Ray
