from the rookies view We have now competed in 4 contests and in the last just got thrashed. We have done better this year than we could have ever expected.I did not take any fancy comp classes just Alexs $50 backyard classes and asked a few questions some he would not answer some he did in great detail(remember this was not a comp class).I spent a day at a comp with one of the teams(thanks Dan and Buzz) and read a lot on the net..When the top guys are throwin bones I was takin notes.Cooked often ate some ugly que.Should there be different classes for competitions I dont know but what I do know is if you spread the field thinner then it is there wont be enuff teams for all the events to be qualifiers and then in short order those comps will be gone. What is it going to be like next year if DeForest moves their date to later in the summer so that all the Wi. comps will lined up in a row.I know some of the guys like the idea but for some it may mean doing 1 less contest or choosing between 2 that they would like to do but due to some restraints be it time or money etc just cant.If it came down to choosing between Deforest and Princeton with the Falls definatly on the list I would have to choose Princeton over DeForest. With my limited experience I wonder if having more comps in a short time will be a bad thing as the big dogs need the 25 teams and the little dogs are struggling to get everything set for back to back contests.I hope to see 25 teams or more at all contests but wonder if it can be sustained with some of the established contests having a hard time getting the 25 teams this year.

According to the KCBS website, Deforest will be in August next year.

I don't think it is just the big dogs that want 25 teams Coz. As you got to experience this year, it is quite a rush going to the Royal and being in the Jack draw. Whether you make it or not. So it just goes to show you that on any given Saturday....

Scotty, I do agree about every one wanting the 25.I never imagined gettin that excited over the Jack draw but on that day I wore out a path to the closest computer in the shop. The Royal was an experience for sure. Will we do it again... dont know.We had a heckuva time with Team Jellyroll.Had dinner at Oklahoma Joes and was impressed witth the food for a restaraunt.Got to Hawgeyes on the way thru.If we were to do it again I would want to take a little more time and not rush back.
I know what happened to us was very unusual but as you said ANY GIVEN SATURDAY.I dont think any one should be intimidated by the touring pro's.They are pretty decent guys as a rule.I hope to hit more contests next year if circumstances permit.I am building a new pit and a trailer for it hopefully making it easier for Bren and I when we are the only ones who can go.
