The judge I sat next to was one of the organizers of the norwalk festival. I've been thinking about cooking in a contest and the norwalk contest sounds like a lot of fun.
If you were to pick one to get started, would it be norwalk, westport or new paltz?

thanks bill,, westport was alot of fun and a experience for both of us..it was nice to be the rookie and come home with 5th place trophy for brisket --and rank 11th for whole comp. im still in shock!!!!!! our goal was to have fun, hand in edible food(not over not under cooked) on time, ---and we really prayed not to be last... .... its funny between the horrible rain, and ALOT of strange mishaps----EVERYTHING--and anything seemed to go wrong -------------- between a guy falling into my OTS at 0100 am as i was just trying to sleep (thank god it was empty and it WASNT the WSM that had my butts and brisket on it)---------------------- , my nice maverick therm that transmits to my pocket broke )----- some wet charcoal,--------- wet clothes ( actually drenched ),--------- wet boots, ( my feet looked horribly by the time i got home )------ and had to redo a pre done garnish turn in box after it was completed because of a little rip in it ..etc.. what a day---what a weekend....atleast we had a nice saturday....... i will say we learned ALOT we know what to bring for next time-( a RV/toyhauler would be nice--even if i have to rent it -- it would be well worth it for the --- BATHROOM!!!!!! -----esp for wife,, she wont go to another event unless we rent one or buy one..even as a guy i have to admit port-o-johns are horrible --( guess that answers your question YES im hooked!!!!).was already thinkin of going to sayville next month for bbq brethren ---but doubt it -- im more likely to get to comp in april may -- id love to get to 1-2 a month next spring and summer --but thats wishful thinking........

Dean, you may want to go to Sayville and just sample the Comp. stuff so you know what they are turning in. So you have a base point. They Guy that knocked over your OTS sure he wasn't trying to rob that Brisky...LOL. I agree about the port-a-let, was waiting for the Honey wagon to come Sunday Morn. Great Job again.
hey bill ,,, i would like to get certified as kcbs judge some day and see what people are turning in.. im waiting for a judging class to come around. as for sayville LI im tossing it back and forth --id rather compete--but between work, kids, and other events its gonna be hard to even go for one day.... we'll see im trying !!!
