I've been looking at the BBQ Guru Silver Bullet Smoker Jacket, and I understand that it used to be made of aluminized fiberglass, but is now made of silicone.
What I wondered is whether the inside of the jacket is bare fibreglass, or is it also coated with silicone or aluminium? I've seen aluminized and coated fiberglass, but it's usually only coated on one side, and I'm concerned that it could be difficult to keep clean it it's like this.

I'm also planning to use the jacket without a BBQ Guru, so will the ventelation be ok?

I've found that I can buy aluminized fiberglass locally. It's not very expensive, but it's very thin and only aluminized on one side. I wondered if the Silver Smoker Jacket is made of similar material, or if it's coated on both sides.

Mark, I don't have one of the new jackets but have an older one (one of the originals). I seriously doubt that they would market a product that exposed fiberglass either inside or outside because of health hazard issues. My jacket is made of the same material that the firefighters here use for their protection in the field. If I had to guess, the silicone you mention is probably the new sealant because they had problems with the aluminized fiberglass delaminating. This would probably be a question better asked directly to http://www.thebbqguru.com/bbqContactUs.cfm

Welcome to the board. Cool

Thanks for the info, Bill. I contacted BBQ Guru some time ago, but haven't received a reply. Although the fabric I'm looking at has bare fibreglass on one side, it's woven out of continuous fibres, so it's very smooth and doesn't irritate and shed loose fibres like glass wool does. I've bought a couple of meters, so I'll make it into a jacket and see how it performs.

I have been using one of the newer BBQ Guru jackets for a year. It is silicone inside and out. It does have vents at the top but still produces a lot of condensation b/w the wsm and the jacket especially during cold weather smokes.
