So I finally went out and picked up a 8" pot to catch the ashes in the OT Silver. The problem is that the pot is too high and will not sit on the original ash pan.
For those using the pot method, how are you getting it done? Are you getting a large pot and placing it on the wire frame below the ash pan? WSM (DI), Performer black (DR), Performer green (ER), One Touch Silver 18 red (EI), Weber 900 red (1997) |

That's how I did it - totally removed the existing ash pan and placed a good sized pot directly on the wire frame below. Although, if you could find the right size pot I'm sure your method would work fine also. Go somewhere where they have a silver model on display and try a few pots out on it till you find one that works.

How about using a Brinkman water or charcoal pan instead?

That's what I used. I dismantled my old Brinkmann, and used the charcoal pan for the WSM, and the water pan for my Weber kettle. Both work great for each application.

When I went to Home Depot to get the pot for my 22 1/2" silver, I put several in the basket and tried each one on the silver display model in the store until I found one that fit on the ash catcher. Mine works terrific!!
I really applaud those simple and inexpensive solutions that do such a wonderful job!! -Mike -- Life is just better with a WSM in the family! -- |
