I just found out we are now offering hinged Stainless steel cooking grates for 18 & 22 inch kettles!

Looks like the ol' bar b kettle and the performer are gettin new grates!

(I should note::: It does state that the 18" grates are for the one touch models only... We'll take a look see if it fits the older bar b kettles)

That is great to hear! I was about to order a SS grate for my BGE but would prefer the hinged type.

Rich

The shipping charge was about $7, which is a flat fee that Weber charges for everything included in one order. For some reason we now have to pay sales tax on orders from Florida ? Not a bad deal ...

Paul, if I buy an 18 inch'er for my SJP and it doesn't fit like the previous non-stainless hinged 18 inch'er I bought for my SJP, I want the convenience of going back to HD and returning it.

Someone on the BGE forum has ordered Stainless steel grates from the same outfit that makes them for Weber, and I inquired about the hinged grates and they said it was a Weber exclusive, therefore unable to obtain them. I glad I held off on them.

Let us know if they do fit the older models. After 30+ years, the cooking grate on mine is, shall we say, a little bit rough around the edges. A new SS grate would be a definite improvement.

Pardon my ignorance - but what were the previous replacement grates made from? Will these new grates also be included with new kettles at some point? Thanks.

The "old grates" were steel and nickel plated, I believe. I don't know if the SS will become the stock grate for Weber kettles in the future. My guess would be no. It would increase the costs of the kettle and many buyers probably want to get in as low as possible and already are having a problem justifying the extra cost of a Weber - once they own one, that problem will go away Smiler.

Actually, I think 20 bucks for a 22 1/2 SS grate is an excellent price, although I imagine the rods will be pretty thin.

I just ordered 2 of the BGE SS grates the day before this announcement. Oh, well. But I have eight 22" Weber Kettles, so I'll probably still be ordering a couple of the larger grates.

Sorry, the SJP (Jumbo Joe) takes a slightly larger cooking grate. The Bar B Kettles / One Touch take a 17 1/2" grate and the SJP takes an 18" grate.

We'll keep trying!
