I have an older Weber Performer which has a sheet metal part mounted to the right of the surface or work area on the grill and this part serves as the cooking grate holder. Unfortunately, this past weekend I discovered how sharp the corners are on that cooking grate holder. I regularly wipe down the surfaces after using my grill, but this time just happened to run two fingers across that cooking grate holder which proceeded to fillet those fingers quite nicely. I have since put some duct tape over that part until I have time to file off the sharp corners. I also shot an email to the Weber customer service desk suggesting they always round off those exposed metal edges or cover them with a piece of rubber or plastic. Regardless of the injury suffered, the bbq chicken and smoked salmon were a success. Who said grilling and barbecuing was not a contact sport.

Sorry about your fingers. I'm glad the Q turned out all right!

Thanks. I received an immediate response from Weber and they offered to send a new part. Good folks.
