I saw a Weber Silver at someone's house the other day and it had a propane tank attached to it. Since I was there on business I didn't want to ask the owner about it but it seems like it is all original. There was a propane tank holder on the triangle wire base with the hose running under the grill cover. Was I seeing things?

Phil Hartcher, a couple of others and I had a discussion of the subject last April - but I can't find it.

anyway, in Australia a propane adapter is sold and you might be able to get a friend to ship you one - but IIRC the total cost will be aobut $200 - and then you will be cooking with gas - which doesn't taste as good as cooking with charcoal Big Grin

At that price, I really don't understand the rationale. I'm skeptical how well this would work. It would be vastly inferior to a low end gasser, for a similar price. Plus, I would think it would lose some or all function as a charcoal grill. Unless you were trying to collect novelty items, why would you trade $200 + a great charcoal grill for a really bad gas grill?

It is a method of converting the Kettle to a gasser, so that you can use the kettle for indirect cooking, without waiting 30 - 40 minutes for the charcoal to ash over.

I have used it but prefer to use a normal gasser and set it up for indirect.
