I would keep it covered, out of the weather for sure. The finish is actually porcelain, so if it doesn't chip or get dinged, and you keep it clean and dry, it should stay shiny. I'm sure my wife thinks I'm weird, but I wipe mine down with a rag after each use too. Someone call me on this if I'm wrong, but I think I read somewhere that someone wipes theirs down with a little oil too.

Clean it with soap and water. Some people also use turtle wax but I wouldnt recomend it just because it stinks. Oil seems to atract dust. (Ford model A, We tried baby oil once!)
So... I finally understand the question. On long cooks I guess grease spits out of the top vent holes and then bakes onto the hood in maybe a 12" circle around the vent.
Suddenly wiping down after every use seems like a mighty good idea to avoid serious scrubbing later.
